TRUCK DECKS - Hauling a Trailer

Q: I have a short box truck. With a 7' X Deck, can I still haul a trailer?

A: Absolutely. You will need to be aware of your turning radius when hauling a trailer, but one of the most common deck setups is a 6'-6" short box truck with a 7' X Deck.

TRUCK DECKS - Installation

Q: How do I install my X deck?

A: X deck recommends a bolt-thru installation method. Meaning that all four bolt down holes are utilized and bolted right through to the undercarriage of your truck box,. We include four bolts and 4 threaded backing plates for this purpose. X Decks may also be turnbuckled down to your truck using the 4 turnbuckle eyelets preinstalled on all x decks.

NOTE: No matter what method of installation you use, to help distribute the weight of the loaded deck more evenly, a wooden foot pad approx. 8" x 16" x 3/4" plywood under the rear deck legs and a 4" x 60" under the front leg is necessary.

Q: Can I install my X deck myself?

A: Many of our customers do. It will take you about 1 hour and a few common hand tools.

Q: Can I get a X Deck Dealer to install my X Truck deck?

A: Yes, Contact a dealer for info

TRUCK DECKS - Deck Construction

Q: Will my X Truck Deck rust or corrode?

A: Our decks are all constructed of aluminum for several reasons. It is strong, lighter weight than steel, and does not rust. It does oxidize, which results in a skin of aluminum oxide coating the metal. This coating actually protects it from further oxidation. (an aluminum can will take up to 10,000 years to disintegrate!)

Q: I have heard Aluminum Decks are prone to cracked welds is this an issue on X Decks

A: cracked welds on X Decks are extremely rare because we TIG weld our decks. Our decks are also constructed using our proprietary track lock construction which utilizes interlaying and interlocking extrusions and a bolt connecting system to attach the leg assemblies to the deck frame.  This system is much stronger than welding the legs to the deck  frame.

Q: Are the sides of an X Deck extendable?

A: Yes, both sides of X Decks extend. The total maximum width is 96 inches, which can accommodate two ATVs or snowmobiles while still being in complete compliance with DOT and Transport Canada regulations.

Q: I don't need extendable deck sides. Is there a deck model without them?

A: All X Decks have extendable sides.

TRUCK DECKS - Conforming to the DOT

Q: Do I have to register or insure my X deck?

A: One of the advantages of owning a deck is that there is no registration or insurance required.

Q: Is an X Deck legal in my area?

A: When an X Deck is in its fully extended position, it is 96 inches wide (outside to outside). This is within the maximum width allowed by Transport Canada and/or the DOT. To ensure compliance, all X DEcks come with Pre installed clearance lights along the deck sides and a tri-light on the rear of our decks to indicate a load over 8' wide. X Deck recommends using 'working load limit' rated tie-downs to hold your cargo to the deck(in accordance with Standard 10, Cargo Securement).

When hauling a trailer, side loading ensures that your ATVs won't hang over the end of the deck and you can unload without disconnecting your trailer.
